Venom is a parasitic life form. The first Venom symbiote was created by Doctor Octopus for Norman Osborn and OsCorp. The second version was created by Doctor Octopus for Loki. This version of Venom appeared in the Ultimate Spider-Man television series.

First version

When Norman Osborn decided that he wanted an army of Spider-Men, he hired Doctor Octopus to create them. Doctor Octopus managed to get a sample of Spider-Man's DNA and used it to create a symbiote. However, the symbiote escaped Doctor Octopus' laboratory.

The symbiote was able to track down Peter Parker who was at a party at Harry Osborn's home. When the symbiote arrived, it bonded with Flash Thompson. "Venom" knew that Peter was Spider-Man and attacked him. As the party guests evacuated Harry's home, Spider-Man and Nova fought Venom. However, the Venom symbiote was able to separate from Flash and bond with Nova. As Spider-Man and Venom fought they crashed through a window and ended up high above the streets of New York City.

White Tiger and Power Man soon arrived to help Spider-Man. Power Man was able to use his super strength to rip the Venom symbiote off of Nova. However, in the process, the Venom symbiote bonded to Power Man. Venom then fought Spider-Man and Nova. Nova was able to use his powers to separate the symbiote from Power Man. However, the Venom symbiote also bonded with Iron Fist. Iron Fist, as Venom, then attacked Spider-Man. However, Iron Fist was able to use his powers to get the Venom symbiote off of him.

The Venom symbiote then bonded to Spider-Man and he attacked the other heroes. However, Spider-Man attempted to try and break free from the Venom symbiote. Spider-Man then electrocuted the Venom symbiote with his taser webs and destroyed it.

Sometime later, Norman Osborn visited Doctor Octopus and said that Venom was a success. Norman then ordered Doctor Octopus to create an improved version of the Venom symbiote which Spider-Man would not be able to destroy.

However, a small piece of the Venom symbiote was at Harry Osborn's apartment. Harry found it and placed it in a glass jar.

Back in Black

Harry later used the Venom symbiote to become a superhero. Harry revealed to Peter that he was the black Spider-Man and Peter discovered that Harry was doing this to earn his father's approval.

However, the Venom symbiote warped Harry's mind and he began to attack civilians. Spider-Man intervened and fought Venom. Spider-Man was able to destroy the Venom symbiote and save Harry by electrocuting the symbiote. However, as before a small piece of the symbiote survived and was living inside Harry.

Harry, as Venom, later attacked Batroc the Leaper and sent him to the hospital. However, Spider-Man got the blame. Peter Parker believed that it was Harry and he still had possession of the Venom symbiote. Peter then confronted Harry, but Harry denied it.

Harry then went to OsCorp to ask his father for help. At first, Norman believed that Harry only wanted to talk about teenage drama and blew him off. However, Harry transformed into Venom and was about to attack Norman before Spider-Man crashed through the window. Venom then threw Norman out of his office window, but Spider-Man saved him before hitting the ground. As Spider-Man saved Norman, Venom managed to get away.

Spider-Man believed that Harry would return to OsCorp because of his "daddy issues" so he steaked out OsCorp until Venom returned. Spider-Man then spotted Venom and attacked him. Their fight led into an OsCorp laboratory. As Spider-Man was about to take down Venom, Norman stopped him and revealed that he knew Harry was Venom. Norman attempted to reason with Venom, but Venom picked him up and threw him across the room. Norman was still alive and OsCorp scientists were able to get him to safety. Nova, Power Man, White Tiger, and Iron Fist then arrived and attacked Venom. Venom briefly fought the heroes but was eventually able to escape.

A short while later, White Tiger revealed that she had a piece of the Venom symbiote. Spider-Man went to the high school science lab and used it to try and create what he called "Anti-Venom". Venom was drawn to the symbiote sample Spider-Man had and arrived at the high school where he fought with White Tiger, Iron Fist, Power Man, and Nova. Spider-Man then joined the fight and injected the symbiote with the Anti-Venom. This caused the Venom symbiote to separate from Harry.

Harry was then taken to the hospital. While there, Norman stole a vile of Harry's blood and gave it to Doctor Octopus.

Spider-Man was later captured by Doctor Octopus and Doc Ock took a blood sample from him and added it to the the Venom symbiote. Doctor Octopus then told Spider-Man that the Venom symbiote was too unpredictable and that by adding his blood to the Venom symbiote he could control it. Doctor Octopus planned to bond the Venom symbiote with Spider-Man. Spider-Man was able to break free from his restraints. However, Norman Osborn was able to sneak up behind Spider-Man and subdue him with a taser. Norman then revealed to Spider-Man that Doctor Octopus worked for him and that he planned to create a Venom army that would be under his control. However, Doctor Octopus betrayed Norman Osborn and injected him with a formula that transformed him into the Green Goblin. Green Goblin then brutally beat Doctor Octopus. Spider-Man fought Green Goblin and shortly later, S.H.I.E.L.D. arrived. However, Green Goblin got away.

Rise of the Goblin

Later on, Green Goblin attacked the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. Harry was by his side and attempted to talk his father out of what he was doing. However, Green Goblin electrocuted Harry which forced him to transform into Venom. Green Goblin and Venom then worked together to fight Spider-Man. However, Harry realized that what he was doing was wrong and electrocuted himself which caused the symbiote to separate from him. Green Goblin then took a small sample of the Venom symbiote and flew away on his glider.

Green Goblin later kidnapped Peter Parker and injected him with the Venom symbiote. Green Goblin did this to turn Peter into the perfect son. However, the Venom symbiote reacted to Peter's human/spider DNA and mutated into the Carnage symbiote.

Green Goblin then sent Carnage to attack White Tiger, Nova, Power Man, and Iron Fist. Harry Osborn was also there. Harry was able to convince the symbiote to bond with him again to save Peter. When the symbiote bonded with Harry, it turned him into Venom again. Venom then went after Green Goblin for revenge and Spider-Man followed him. Spider-Man then made a truce with Venom to temporarily work together to fight Green Goblin. However, Venom betrayed Spider-Man and attempted to kill Green Goblin. Harry realized that he could not kill his father and managed to separate himself from the symbiote.

The Venom symbiote was later obtained by S.H.I.E.L.D. and they put it where they thought it could no longer cause any trouble.

Venom Bomb

Green Goblin was held at the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier. However, Green Goblin had a small capsule on him with a small portion of the Venom symbiote in it. As Green Goblin broke the capsule, the Venom symbiote began to travel through the helicarrier. The symbiote then found the symbiote that was being held by S.H.I.E.L.D. and freed it.

The Venom symbiote then bonded to several S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and they attacked Spider-Man. Spider-Man managed to escape them, but was then confronted by Agent Phil Coulson who had also been bonded to the Venom symbiote. However, Nick Fury soon arrived and helped Spider-Man fight Coulson. Spider-Man and Nick Fury were able to subdue Coulson but in the process a Venom symbiote bonded to Nick Fury. As Spider-Man fought Nick Fury, some S.H.I.E.L.D. agents possessed by the Venom symbiote freed Green Goblin from his cell. The Venoms then started to follow Green Goblin's orders and called him master.

Green Goblin learned that his Venom minions were unable to stop Spider-Man so he removed the symbiotes from three of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and bonded with them turning himself into Venom. At that moment, Spider-Man freed Doctor Octopus and had Doc Ock help him find a way to defeat the Venom symbiote.

While Doctor Octopus worked on a cure for the Venom symbiote, Green Goblin entered the lab and attacked Spider-Man. Spider-Man then released the Anti-Venom into the helicarrier's ventilation system and as it spread through the helicarrier, it separated all the symbiotes from their hosts, including the one on Green Goblin. The symbiotes then formed into a giant liquid mass and attacked Spider-Man. However, Spider-Man opened the helicarrier's air lock which sent the symbiote into the sky. The symbiote dragged Spider-Man outside. However, Spider-Man destroyed the symbiote by firing a laser from his Iron Spider armor at it.

Second version

The Avenging Spider-Man

Loki later broke Doctor Octopus out of S.H.I.E.L.D. and asked him to create a new Venom symbiote which he planned to use to attack Earth. Loki also revealed to Doctor Octopus that intended to bond the Venom symbiote to the most fearsome creatures in the Nine Realms and that they would all be under his control. Doctor Octopus told Loki that he needed a sample of Spider-Man's blood to recreate Venom and Loki attacked the wall crawler and captured him.

Loki then placed his mind inside Spider-Man body and teleported himself to Doctor Octopus' laboratory. Doctor Octopus then took a sample of Spider-Man's blood. When Spider-Man woke up after the fight with Loki, he discovered that his mind was in Loki's body and that Loki's mind was in his body. Spider-Man also discovered that Loki (in Spider-Man's body) was leading an army of magical creatures bonded to the Venom symbiote on an attack on New York City. The Avengers arrived and fought the Venom army, but were over powered. The Avengers realized that to stop the Venom army they had to defeat Loki. They found Loki and fought him. However, unknown to the Avengers, Loki and Spider-Man's minds were returned to their own body. After a brief fight, the Avengers discovered that he was really Spider-Man and they worked together to fight the Venom army.

Spider-Man and his old S.H.I.E.L.D. team then went to Doctor Octopus' old laboratory. Nova then found a container of Venom symbiote and he destroyed it. Only seconds later, the heroes were attacked by Doctor Octopus. However, Doctor Octopus managed to escape. The Avengers, Spider-Man, and the S.H.I.E.L.D. heroes then worked together to defeate the Venom army. Doctor Octopus then betrayed Loki, but Loki defeated him. Spider-Man and the Avengers then worked together to defeat Loki and Loki fled into a portal to another world.

Agent Venom

While web swinging through New York City, Spider-Man spotted a Venom symbiote on a jumbotron. As Spider-Man put the symbiote in a container to be taken to S.H.I.E.L.D., he was attacked by Scorpion who was bonded to a Venom symbiote. Flash Thompson arrived to help Spider-Man but just got in the way. After a short fight, Spider-Man was able to capture Scorpion in his webbing. Scorpion then broke free from the webbing but Spider-Man was able to use electricity to separate the symbiote from Scorpion and contain it. Scorpion was then taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody and Spider-Man gave a vile filled with the Venom symbiote to Dr. Curt Connors. However, a small piece of the Venom symbiote remained on the roof an secretly attached itself to the bottom of Flash's shoe.

The next day, Beetle attacked Flash at school so that he could get the symbiote for his boss, Taskmaster. To protect Flash, Spider-Man had him hide in a closet. However, as Beetle began to beat Spider-Man, the symbiote surrounded Flash and he attacked Beetle. Spider-Man and Flash then worked together to defeat Beetle. After Beetle's defeat, Spider-Man tried to warn Flash that the Venom symbiote was dangerous. However, Flash would not listen. Spider-Man then attacked Flash and tried to get the symbiote off of him. However, they were both attacked by Taskmaster and Beetle. Taskmaster tried to take Flash but was stopped by Spider-Man. Spider-Man and Flash then worked together to defeat Taskmaster and Beetle. They managed to capture Beetle, but Taskmaster got away.

Spider-Man once again warned Flash of how dangerous the Venom symbiote was. Flash attempted to separate from the symbiote but was unable to. Spider-Man then took Flash to S.H.I.E.L.D. and Curt Connors ran test on Flash and discovered that the symbiote was permanently bonded to Flash. Nick Fury then had Flash locked up knowing how dangerous the Venom symbiote could be. However, Spider-Man convinced Fury to let Flash be on a team of heroes he was forming called the New Warriors. Flash then took the name Agent Venom.

Double Agent Venom

After Doctor Octopus had both Agent Venom and Scarlet Spider abducted, he held them captive on HYDRA Island which was in space. Spider-Man was able to get to HYDRA Island by stowing away on Kraven's space ship. In his laboratory, Doctor Octopus held Flash Thompson and tried to separate the Venom symbiote from him by using sonic vibrations. Spider-Man managed to free Agent Venom, but the loud noises Doc Ock was using on Flash drove the symbiote crazy and Flash turned into Venom. Venom then attacked Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider. However, Spider-Man was able to calm Flash down. Despite this, Doctor Octopus was still able to separate the symbiote from Flash.

As Spider-Man, Flash, and Scarlet Spider escaped the laboratory, Kraven entered the lab. Doctor Octopus then pushed Kraven into the Venom symbiote and it bonded to him. Kraven then began to hunt down the three heroes. When Kraven found them, he attacked them. As Kraven was about to kill Scarlet Spider, Flash ran up to Kraven and the symbiote left Kraven and re-bonded with Flash.

Spider-Man, Agent Venom, and Scarlet Spider were then able to escape HYDRA Island and make their way back to Earth.

The Symbiote Saga

Agent Venom was later attacked by Dr. Michael Morbius and he was able to obtain a sample of the Venom symbiote. Morbius planned on creating a weaponized symbiote armor for HYDRA. Flash's symbiote was able to sense the part of itself that was stolen by HYDRA which led Agent Venom and Spider-Man to them. Spider-Man and Agent Venom then fought Doctor Octopus, who had been bonded to the Carnage symbiote and Michael Morbius who had been transformed into a giant bat. Spider-Man managed to defeat Doctor Octopus but Morbius got away. During this, HYDRA's Carnage symbiote got spread through New York City and bonded with hundreds of people. However, Spider-Man managed to lure Anti-Venom to the Carnage heart and he used his power to destroy it.

Everyone was freed from Carnage's control but the Carnage symbiote managed to survive and bond with Mary Jane Watson. Mary Jane then became the Carnage Queen. Spider-Man and Agent Venom then made their way to Midtown High School which was where the Carnage Queen was. However, as they got inside the school bell started to ring and the loud noise caused Flash to lose control of the symbiote and turn into Venom. Spider-Man and Venom then worked together to fight several Carnages that attacked them. Spider-Man was also able to convince Mary Jane to separate from the Carnage symbiote. This put an end to Carnage once and for all.

In the comics

In the Ultimate comics, the Venom symbiote was created by Richard Parker and Eddie Brock Sr. as a revolutionary means to cure diseases.

Trask Industries attempted to steal Richard and Eddie's discovery. While flying to New York to prove they were the creators of Venom in court, Eddie released the Venom symbiote to test it. The Venom symbiote caused the plane to crash which killed Richard, Eddie, and their wives.

Years later, Eddie Brock bonded to the symbiote and became Venom and fought Spider-Man. During their fight, Venom stepped on a downed power line and the electricity apparently destroyed the Venom symbiote.
