Jack Murdock was a boxer and the father of Matt Murdock who eventually grew up and became an attorney and a vigilante named Daredevil.

Jack's eventually became a washed up fighter and to support his son he took a job as an enforcer for an up and coming gangster called the Kingpin.
While Jack was robbing a store Matt saw him and he was so distraught that he ran into the street without looking. A truck swerved to miss Matt. However, a container of radioactive wast burst open and hit Matt in the eyes which blinded him.
Jack learned that his boss, Kingpin, was the one responsible for illegally transporting the radioactive waste through New York City. While Jack was on his way to the police he was captured and Kingpin killed him.

In the comics Jack's ring name was Battlin' Jack Murdock.
Jack made Matt study hard to become a doctor or lawyer so that he wouldn't have to become a boxer like him.
Jack was asked by a crooked fight promoter named Roscoe Sweeney a.k.a. the Fixer to throw a fight. However, Jack refused to throw the fight and Fixer had him killed.
In the 2003 Daredevil movie Jack's ring name was Jack "The Devil" Murdock. He was given that name because a newspaper reporter once wrote in an article that he fought like the devil and the name stuck.
Jack became an enforcer for a criminal named Fallon. However, Jack restarted his boxing career when Matt Murdock lost his sight.
Fallon later asked Jack to throw a fight and he agreed. However, during the match Jack saw Matt in the audience and didn't want to disappoint him so he won the match. Later that night Fallon had Wilson Fisk, the future Kingpin, kill Jack.
