History[]
After Scott Summers sustained a brain injury he was no longer able to control his optic blast and his powers were always active.
The visor was designed to prevent a random discharge of this energy from his eyes.
Cyclops can release his optic blast through the ruby eye piece by pressing a button on the side of the visor.
The visor also has technology built into the view screen that can detect signals from the X-Men's tracking devices.
