Asteroid M was a space station that was built into an asteroid. Asteroid M was designed by Magneto to be a refuge for mutants. However, during the Westchester Wars, Asteroid M was used as a base for Magneto's Brotherhood of Mutants.
History[]
Magneto grew weary of the constant struggle between mutants and humans. Because of this Magneto kidnapped various scientists and had them construct a space station that was located on an asteroid. Magneto called this base Asteroid M.
Magneto then went to the United Nations and announced that he had constructed Asteroid M as a safe have for mutants away from normal humans and that all mutants were welcome there. The X-Men went to Asteroid M to investigate.
While on Asteroid M, Magneto was apparently killed by one of his followers called Fabian Cortez. Cortez then blamed Magneto's death on the X-Men.
However, Magneto was still alive. When Cortez launched hundreds of missiles from Asteroid M at Earth, Magneto used his powers to destroy the missiles. Magneto then returned to Asteroid M and got revenge on Cortez.
Asteroid M then began to break apart. As Asteroid M fell into Earth's ocean Magneto stayed on it believing that if his dream had to die so would he. However, Magneto did survive.
Several years later Magneto started a war between mutants and normal humans. During this time Magneto had a new Asteroid M constructed and he used it as his base during the war. The Westchester Wars lasted five years. At the end of the war Magneto was defeated and Asteroid M crashed into Earth. Asteroid M was then turned into the X-Museum which chronicled the history of the Westchester Wars and the X-Men's victory over Magneto.
